Houma Man Pleads Guilty to Distribution & Possession of Child Porn

Lafourche Parish District Attorney Kristine Russell announced that a Houma man pled guilty to

one (1) count of Distribution of Pornography Involving Juveniles and seventeen (17) counts of

Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles earlier today, September 6th, 2019.

Jose Hernandez, 42, was sentenced to ten (10) years per count with the Department of

Corrections without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. The sentences are

to be served concurrent, and he will have to register as a sex offender.

An investigation was launched by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unit in

June of 2018, after a cyber tip reported that Hernandez uploaded a child pornography video via

social media. A further investigation discovered additional child pornography in Hernandez’s

possession. Hernandez was subsequently arrested in January of 2019, and brought to the

Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex for booking.

“Child pornography is horrid, and a reproach to humanity. Those who manufacture, distribute or

possess it must be held accountable – as they are all guilty of playing a role,” said Assistant

District Attorney Jason Chatagnier, who prosecuted the case. “Federal, state and local agencies

are working together to bring these abusers to justice. This is a victory in that fight.”

Jose Hernandez will begin serving his 18 concurrent sentences immediately.
