District Attorney’s Domino Effect Program Set to Begin Next Week

Lafourche Parish District Attorney Kristine Russell is excited to announce the dates for this year’s Domino Effect presentation to Lafourche Parish High School Seniors.

The program is part of the District Attorney’s Office’s continued efforts to combat distracted or impaired driving, and is designed to illustrate its far reaching consequences.

“The real life stories that are shared in the program and the realization of the long-lasting consequences of impaired or distracted driving takes a heavy emotional toll on everyone involved,” said District Attorney Kristine Russell. “Regardless, it is so rewarding when we see students outside of the program with their domino key chains in tow serving as a constant reminder to not drive impaired or distracted.”

The District Attorney’s Office is scheduled to begin the program next week.

  • Central Lafourche High School – Monday, March 18th @ 8:00 a.m.
  • South Lafourche High School – Tuesday, March 19th @ 9:00 a.m.
  • Thibodaux High School – Thursday, March 21st @ 8:00 a.m.
  • E.D. White Catholic High School – Tuesday, April 2nd @ 11:00 a.m.

According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Association, NHTSA, 3,477 people were killed and an estimated additional 391,000 injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2015. Also in 2015, an additional 551 non-occupants (pedestrians, bicyclists, and others) were killed in distraction-affected crashes.

Despite the data, by partnering together against distracted or impaired driving and educating through programs such as the Domino Effect, we can make Lafourche Parish a safer place for us all.
